EMDR is an evidence-based therapy practice that is indicated for a range of mental health issues, but especially for use in the treatment of trauma-related disorders (e.g. PTSD). It utilizes eye-movement exercises that mimic REM sleep patterns to open up adaptive neural pathways, which allows the clinician to guide the client through a process of working through painful traumatic memories in a non-invasive manner.
